Supporting Your Safe Return to Work

At n1 physio, we understand the physical, emotional, and financial stress that can follow a workplace injury. Our experienced Penrith team provides targeted workers compensation rehab, including targeted physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation, and hands-on care, to support your recovery and help you return to work safely and confidently.

We work closely with GPs, case managers, and insurers (including icare NSW) under the Workers Compensation scheme to ensure your rehab is clear, structured, and outcome-focused. As an experienced workplace rehabilitation team, we support injured workers and injured employees with early intervention, occupational rehabilitation, and a clear path back to safe duties.

What We Offer

Whether your injury is acute, repetitive, or complex, we develop a workers compensation rehab plan based around your current function, work demands, and recovery goals. This may include:

  • Physiotherapy: Thorough assessment, manual therapy, guided exercise, splinting, pain management, and equipment prescription.
  • Exercise Physiology: Strength and conditioning, balance and gait retraining, home programs, and graded return-to-work planning.
  • Massage Therapy: Soft tissue treatment and remedial massage to manage pain, reduce tension, and support recovery.

For more complex or long-term injuries, we offer structured gym-based strengthening programs to rebuild function and resilience before returning to the workplace. Our team works alongside allied health professionals, occupational therapists, and exercise physiologists to deliver coordinated treatment services personalised to your role and recovery stage.

What is the difference between physiotherapy and exercise physiology in workers compensation rehab?

Physiotherapy is usually the first port of call after a workplace injury, focusing on assessment, hands-on treatment, pain management, and early movement. Exercise physiology takes over once you're ready to load and rebuild, using structured exercise to restore strength, fitness, and the specific physical demands of your role. Many of our clients see both clinicians during the same claim, with treatment transitioned as recovery progresses.

What should I bring to my first workers compensation rehab appointment?

To get the most from your first visit, bring your claim number, your insurer and case manager's contact details, your current Certificate of Capacity, any imaging or specialist reports you have and a list of medications. If you can, wear loose clothing that lets us assess and treat the injured area comfortably.

How many sessions of workers compensation rehab will I need?

Every claim is different, which is why we plan in short, reviewable blocks rather than long open-ended programs. Most insurers approve treatment in cycles of around eight sessions, then we submit a progress report and request further sessions if they're clinically needed. Simple soft-tissue injuries may resolve in a handful of visits, while more complex shoulder, back, or post-surgical cases often require structured rehab over several months.

Can I choose my own physiotherapist for a workers compensation claim in NSW?

Under the NSW Workers Compensation scheme, you have the right to choose your treating allied health provider, and you can change providers if you're not happy with your care. Many of our clients find n1 physio after starting their rehab elsewhere, and we're happy to coordinate the transfer with your case manager and GP.

How is workers compensation rehab paid for?

Once your claim is accepted, your treating insurer (such as icare NSW or a self-insured employer) covers the cost of approved physiotherapy, exercise physiology, and massage therapy sessions. We invoice the insurer directly under SIRA fee guidelines, so there are no out-of-pocket costs for you. If your claim is still pending, we'll talk you through the options before booking.

Do I need a referral to start workers compensation rehab at n1 physio?

You don't need a traditional referral to book in, but you'll need an open Workers Compensation claim before treatment can be billed to your insurer. To get started, your GP will issue a Certificate of Capacity, your employer will lodge the claim, and the insurer will provide a claim number. Bring those details to your first appointment and our team will take care of the rest.

Move With Clarity

We believe better results come from treating the person, not just the injury. Whether you’re an athlete returning to performance, someone navigating chronic pain, or simply aiming to move better and live stronger, we’ll walk with you every step of the way.
